Suspended organised crime head, Major General. Richard Shibiri is expected to respond to allegations that he received R80,000 from Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and interfered in a murder investigation.

Shibiri will take the hot seat at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday in Pretoria.

Shibiri’s testimony comes as Brown Mogotsi’s medical certificate is set to be considered after he informed the commission’s legal team at the last minute that he was ill.

Earlier testimony from a detective known as Witness C, attached to the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), alleged that Shibiri was on Matlala’s payroll.

The commission heard that Shibiri initially rejected an electronic transfer and requested the money in cash.

He is further accused of attempting to influence and delay the investigation into the murder of engineer Armand Swart.

Witness claimed he pressured investigators to release suspects, allegedly referring to them as “dangerous people” in a manner seen as intimidation.

Shibiri is also expected to address claims that he approached blogger Musa Khawula, asking him to stop publishing information about Matlala’s private and business affairs.

Shibiri has been suspended pending the outcome of the allegations.
