Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi returned to the Madlanga Commission on Friday, launching a bid to remove Chief Evidence Leader Matthew Chaskalson from proceedings over allegations of bias and misconduct.
Through his lawyers, Mogotsi told the commission he no longer trusted Chaskalson to lead his questioning.
Commission chair Mbuyiseli Madlanga set aside May 15 for arguments over the recusal application, with Mogotsi’s long-delayed testimony expected to resume immediately after a ruling.
The commission has faced mounting scrutiny since Mogotsi’s explosive November 2025 appearance, where he admitted to fabricating claims under oath.
Madlanga sharply rebuked him at the time, warning that the oath appeared “meaningless” after Mogotsi confessed to lying while operating as a “contact agent”.
Mogotsi also withdrew sensational allegations linking Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and the Zulu King, Misuzulu kaZwelithini, to the CIA, issuing formal apologies after public outrage erupted nationwide.
The proceedings are underway.
