Published

A senior official at Technikon Northern Gauteng, near Pretoria, has been arrested on charges of corruption and fraud amounting to R500 000, a member of the elite Scorpions investigation unit said on Friday.

Scorpions member, senior state advocate Riegal du Toit, said Rakgadi Sebothoma, about 40, had been suspended from her job as head of the campus protection service.

She was arrested at her Soshanguve home, north-east of Pretoria, in the early hours of Friday.

Du Toit said Scorpions members were still searching her home at 2.30pm, but he would not comment on whether anything had been seized.

Sebothoma was expected to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court on Monday, Du Toit said. He would not elaborate on what the corruption charges involved.

Telephones at the technikon were not answered and no one could be reached for comment.

Sebothoma would probably spend the weekend in the Silverton police cells, said Du Toit. - Sapa
