National roads to get 24-hour policing

Twenty-four hour traffic policing will soon become effective on the country's national roads, according to John Schnell, director of the KwaZulu-Natal road traffic inspectorate.

The decision to beef up patrols was one of the resolutions taken at the end of a week-long conference dealing with challenges facing traffic policing.

Schnell said the department of transport would extend surveillance over the national routes so that patrols would run for 24 hours every day.
