The family of the late ANC activist, Thomas Nkobi, showed no sympathy to Schabir Shaik on Thursday, saying "the man should rot in jail".
Nkobi Holdings, one of Shaik's companies, was named after Nkobi's legacy.
But the family of the former ANC Treasurer General claimed this was done without their permission.
The Nkobi family took Shaik to court but decided to stop proceedings when the matter started to take its toll on Nkobi's wife, Winnifred.
Nkobi's daughter Thato said her family had not been observing the case at the Durban High Court because the "name of the family has been dragged through the mud".
Thato, who is the Chief District Surgeon for Johannesburg, said: "The fact that my father's name was used without the approval of our family brings a lot of pain and anger.
"I feel no sympathy for a man who didn't have the decency to ask for permission to use the family name.
"God will sort him out."
Reacting to Shaik's guilty verdict, Thato said: "He can rot in jail for all I care... what goes around comes around."
Ian Jordan, Nkobi's family lawyer, confirmed that the family had contested the use of their name without permission.
"We started legal action but the whole process became stressful for Mrs Nkobi. It brought a lot of emotion and affected her health adversely and she decided to stop the proceedings," said Jordan.
He added that the guilty verdict might bring a sense of closure to a family that has been humiliated for years.
Thoman Nkobi died in 1994 after suffering a stroke.
