A dispute over a cellphone is believed to have led to the death of a Northdale, Pietermaritzburg, man on Saturday night.
Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said that Rajen Jamaklall, 38, had been found dead with severe assault and stab wounds at a home in Dehra Dunn Circle, Northdale, about 8pm.
Budhram said police investigations showed that Jamaklall had been attacked by three men who had threatened to burn down his house if he did not return a cellphone they had accused him of stealing from them.
Three men had been arrested and were expected to appear in court soon, said Budhram.
Police are also investigating the murders of two unknown men, both aged about 25 years, who died in separate incidents at the weekend.
One body was found in an open field near Sanzwili School in Edendale, Pietermaritzburg. The man had sustained multiple wounds believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.
The body of second man was found at Mpophomeni, near Howick, with multiple stab wounds.
The murders are being investigated.
