R400 000 bash as Zuma's daughter turns 27

No expense was spared this week in what could be considered Duduzile Zuma's debutante ball.

President Jacob Zuma's daughter's 27th birthday party - a black tie affair - was held on Tuesday night at the exclusive Inanda Country Club in Johannesburg in a Bedouin tent. It was immediately hailed as one of the parties of the year, complete with a red carpet and an army of media.

Celebrities present included hit music act Kwela Tebza, the controversial TV drag star Somizi, model Miriam Ngomane and ANC Youth League president Julius Malema.

Presidential spokesperson Zizi Kodwa was also there, being known not to miss a good party, and the rest of the 550 guests included ANC and high society businesspeople as well a few night club owners and socialites.

Former Miss South Africa Tansey Coetzee looked gorgeous in red and top DJs Fistaz and Monde played some mind-numbing rock.

Snacks were served and copious amounts of Johnnie Walker Blue and Dom Perignon were swigged while guests waited for the birthday girl who arrived two-and-a-half-hours late, looking ecstatic.

Covered in tattoos - most notably all the way down her shapely spine, which was open to the chilly night air in her very glamorous, backless, red silk dress - she received myriad extravagant gifts. Staunch ANC supporter and comedian David Kau MCed and helped her open her presents, which included a pair of gaudy gold Nike sportshoes.

Did we just witness the birth of a new African princess? Is she perhaps Zindzi Mandela meets Paris Hilton? Is it going to be party, party, party all the way? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, there is no news yet on who paid the R400 000 bill for the bash - in cash. And what is she going to do when she turns 30?
