Suspended SABC group chief executive Dali Mpofu, who is fighting with the public broadcaster to keep his job, will know his fate soon.
The chairwoman of the SABC interim board, Irene Charnley, said it also intended filling other "important" vacant posts - including that of head of news and current affairs - before its term ended in December.
Charnley was speaking on Tuesday at the National Press Club in Pretoria, where she said the board had been in talks with Mpofu.
The board also announced cost-cutting measures to help the SABC recover from its financial crisis.
Mpofu was suspended on full pay in May by the previous SABC board, which was recently disbanded.
The cash-strapped SABC said at the time that Mpofu's suspension was the result of allegations levelled against him that he refused or failed to abide by and implement decisions of the previous board.
Since then Mpofu has accused the former board of running the SABC like a "spaza shop", while board members accused him of contributing to the broadcaster's governance and financial crises.
Since he won his court battle with the broadcaster Mpofu has made it clear he wants to be reinstated.
Charnley said the board was not considering retrenching staff.
Cost-cutting measures included a ban on business class travel and ending satellite TV subscriptions for directors.
Charnley also said TV licence fees would increase by 11 percent immediately.
