Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 2 pm on Friday.
Power interruptions are expected to last until 05:00 on Monday, 10 March.
This decision follows a 98% availability of power supply, affected by a 2700MW loss over the past 14 hours.
"This includes Koeberg Unit 2, which was taken offline after being brought back on Wednesday and two Kusile units whose coal operations went sub-optimal following adverse weather in the area," said Eskom in a statement.
The power utility said higher levels of planned maintenance outages, aimed at winter preparation and meeting regulatory and environmental licensing requirements, are still underway.
To replenish emergency reserves over the weekend, ongoing high levels of planned maintenance will continue.
Eskom Group Executive Generation Bheki Nxumalo, they want to reiterate that South Africa is in no way returning to the levels of load shedding experienced in 2023.
"Two years into delivering the generation recovery plan, that will bring an end to load shedding, we are at a challenging time and the full force of our highly skilled engineering resources are deployed and focused."
Last month load shedding was implemented on February 20, 2025, after 323 days of uninterrupted power supply.
It was suspended six days after the regeneration of five units at Majuba, two units at Camden, and one unit at Medupi.
Minister of Energy and Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho, issued an apology, adding the setback is regretted.
