A father and son have been shot dead after they were robbed while stranded at the side of the R603, near Adam's Mission on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics, said emergency personnel responded to calls of a shooting just after 3pm.
According to Jamieson, the family had been travelling along the highway when their car broke down.
It is alleged that they were approached by gunmen who opened fire.
"The family attempted to flee whilst the gunman continued shooting and following them.
"Paramedics were shown to a house just below the roadway where they found a female in her 40s who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her lower legs.
"She was stabilised on the scene by ALS Paramedics and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that she required," Jamieson said.
He said emergency teams were then shown to the front of the house where they found a man, believed to be in his 20s.
"He sustained fatal wounds and was declared deceased at the scene. Down the river bank, an older man, believed to be the father of the family, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene," Jamieson said.
The father is believed to be a local induna or chief in the area.
Police are investigating further.
