A 28-year-old Limpopo man is on Wednesday scheduled to appear before the Watervaal Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested for allegedly raping his mother in the Watervaal policing area.

According to police in Limpopo, the incident took place on Saturday evening, 13 December 2025, at Magangeni village.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the 28-year-old man arrived home at around 6.30 pm and demanded money from his mother, who told him she had none.

“The suspect reportedly became aggressive towards his mother, who is on medication, and allegedly insulted, attacked and raped her,” said Ledwaba.

The victim reportedly tried to resist but was overpowered. After the alleged rape, the suspect is said to have locked her inside the house before fleeing the scene.

Ledwaba said the woman later managed to get help from community members, who unlocked the house and assisted her.

“She then reported the matter to the police, and a rape case was opened at Watervaal SAPS,” he said.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday, 15 December 2025, and will face charges of rape, kidnapping and intimidation when he appears in court.

Police said investigations are continuing.

In May, IOL reported that a 55-year-old Limpopo man, Silah Phillemon Moila, from Ga-Ntata village, was convicted and sentenced for raping and murdering his 91-year-old mother.

Limpopo spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said Moila was convicted and sentenced by the Tzaneen Regional Court to two life terms of imprisonment and an additional six years.

“The deceased is the accused’s mother. The conviction and sentence emanate from the incident that took place on 24 February 2024 at Ga-Ntata village. The accused pleaded guilty to all the charges put against him, and the state accepted his guilty plea,” said Malabi-Dzhangi.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, at about 10 pm, Moila found his mother inside her room and he demanded money to buy liquor.

The nonagenarian mother indicated that she did not have any money.

Moila then raped his mother, and killed her.
