A night’s sleep turned into a nightmare for a 29-year-old man who sustained a head injury from a stray bullet that penetrated the roof of his home in the early hours of the new year.

The disturbing incident occurred in Phase 6 of Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal.

Emergency responders from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2am. Upon their arrival, they found the injured man who recounted the events leading to his injury.

He said he was asleep on the bed when the bullet tore through the tin roof of his home and struck him on the head.

Although the exact source of the bullet remains unidentified, officers recovered a 9mm projectile from the scene. It could not be confirmed where the bullet was fired from.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was privately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
