Montreux Jazz Festival headline performer Salif Keita has pulled out of the festival scheduled to take place on Saturday in Franschhoek.

The festival’s organisers announced that the Malian musician will not be performing over the weekend.

Keita is believed to have pulled out of the festival due to a medical emergency.

“Sadly, we need to share that due to sudden illness and an emergency medical procedure, Salif Keita is unfortunately unable to travel to South Africa,” the festival’s statement said.

However, in a show of resilience and commitment to the music, Keita’s band is set to proceed with their scheduled performance on Saturday.
