King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu’s daughter, Princess Nandi Zulu, will run the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon to raise funds for children's organisations, such as Bobbie Bear.

The 42km marathon will take place on Sunday. Speaking on Wednesday about her decision, Princess Nandi said her decision was driven by her passion for children and that she felt she could take part in a marathon to contribute to their safety.

“For many years, I have been committed to initiatives that protect, uplift, and empower our communities, especially our children. That is why joining Team Keep Children Alive Foundation (KCA) is deeply meaningful to me. As I run with Team KCA, every step I take will directly support this vital work — helping create stronger, safer, and healthier futures for children,” said Zulu.

She lauded the foundation, saying its mission went beyond survival. She stated that the foundation’s mission was not only about survival, but also about ensuring that children had access to health, education, and safety.

She further stated that the KCA Foundation had been doing powerful work in South Africa for over 20 years, supporting grassroots organisations such as Bobbie Bear, the Sabrina Love Foundation, Uzima, and leading its own initiatives directly in the field.

The foundation was founded by the Grammy Award-winning music sensation, Alicia Keys. The American artist founded her organisation in 2006 during her visit to the country. She travelled to Wentworth, a coloured community suburb in the south of Durban, and converted an old nightclub into an HIV/Aids Centre. She came back in 2010 for the official opening of the centre, where Princess Zulu met her.

Zulu is the daughter of the late Zulu monarch and his second wife, Queen Buhle Mathe-Zulu from KwaDlamahlahla palace in Nongoma, north of KwaZulu-Natal.

She is a member of Nongoma Rabbit Athletics Club, and will also run in the Cardiff Half Marathon in Wales in October this year.

She is also a brand communication specialist and community development visionary. She holds a National Diploma in Business Communications from Tshwane University of Technology and a Postgraduate Certificate in the Management Advancement Programme from Wits Business School.

Princess Zulu is also the founder of the Princess Nandi Zulu Foundation and owner of House of Nandi Pty (Ltd), an independent publishing and production company that amplifies authentic African narratives. She is busy with a children’s book that is about an animated rhino, called Chomi (a friend).
