Durban - Another policeman has been shot in the line of duty.

Fortunately, unlike the two officers who were cut down after a bloody gun battle at a North Coast police station on Thursday, the latest victim – a Constable Ndlovu of Phoenix SAPS – survived.

The latest attack happened in Inanda on Saturday night when police received a tip about suspects involved in an alleged housebreaking and a hijacking.

Patrolling Phoenix police spotted the suspects’ car travelling at high speed in Inanda, and attempted to stop it, but came under fire.

The suspect’s vehicle came to a standstill and the occupants fled on foot, still firing, and wounding Ndlovu. He was rushed to hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

A case of attempted murder has been opened. No arrest has been made.
