The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for Monday, September 22, with both coastal and interior winds expected to cause disruption in parts of the country.

Along the southern coastline, damaging coastal winds and waves are forecast to impact beachfront activities, small harbours, and navigation at sea. Over the interior, strong winds may lead to localised damage to structures and possible traffic disruptions.

Showers are expected along the west and southern coastal regions, with a 60% chance of scattered rainfall around Cape Town, George, and surrounding areas.

Isolated showers, with a 30% chance of rain, are likely over the Northern Cape, southern Free State, and extending into KwaZulu-Natal, including Durban, Richards Bay, and Port Shepstone. Eastern Cape towns such as Mthatha and East London also face a 30% chance of rainfall.

Meanwhile, most of the northern and interior provinces, including Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga, are expected to remain dry.

Monday will see hot temperatures in the central interior, with Johannesburg expected to peak at 28 degrees Celsius and Pretoria and Polokwane at 30. Durban residents can expect a high of 31 degrees. Cape Town and Gqeberha will be cooler, with maximum temperatures of 20 degrees, while East London should rise to 24 degrees.

Tuesday is expected to be partly cloudy and warm to cool, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts of the country, but widespread over KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

Residents and travellers are advised to exercise caution, especially in areas under the wind warnings, as disruptions to transport and localised damage are possible.
