Tensions have flared-up in Soweto as taxi drivers burn alive a Uber driver at the local Maponya Mall

@Zola_hashatsi @maponya_mall is a crime scene and this is not the first time. Shutting it down from 4am is doable but we need to go deal and shutdown the Taxi Industry, maybe our parents and their parents were afraid of them but, askies, not us.

@SamMokgotsi I support the chap malls management area cause of this, they forget we are all customers no one including taxi industry own passengers we have right to choose mode of transport we want.

@Psemenya60288 North West community burned the taxis early this year because of the same thing of them wanting to control us. I think we all know where this taxis are at night. They must also feel the pain, and there’s no other option.

@MellyTedo13026 Most South Africans use bolt or uber.Imagine being shot or burned because of taxi drivers and taxi patrollers! They need to immediately arrested and killed if they shoot first! We can be held hostage by these selfish gangsters!

@Kingsley_lehihi Boycott taxis by the 25th and 30th encourage sans to us alternative #boycotttaxi’s let’s spread the word and stand in solidarity with our brother who lost his life.

@10SixGun Taxi drivers are so cruel: imagine your son, brother, husband/boyfriend or family member went to work to try and provide and this happens. I’m so broken. What happened to us black people? Black on black hate is real.

@nowmissGURL What is happening in Maponya Mall is the final blow from years of frustration. Taxi drivers need to understand that it is the customer’s CHOICE on the transportation service they will use. You cannot punish e-hailing drivers from simply fulfilling the request of A CUSTOMER!

@Motsekganews There is nothing more painful than being hurt by people you trust. We are trying because the current government is not trying, but taxi people are killing us on the other side. The police are arresting us or demanding money from us to bribe them.

@t_thatomokhele So taxi drivers can attack E-hailing drivers who are trying to make a living for themselves in their township like the ones at Maponya Mall, but they can’t attack foreigners who are selling drugs that poison their communities?

@ Zani_Baccaria The next thing that will happen at Maponya Mall is you won’t be allowed to drive your own car. You’ll only get there using taxis, if this situation is not fixed.

@phuti_mathobela So police officers won’t do anything about the Maponya Mall incident were uber driver were killed and some burnt inside their cars. We need to stop using taxis as South Africans.

@IamOverItNow1 We cannot stop using taxis, because a majority of us, cannot afford cars or other modes of transportation. Also it’s too early to know if the police are going to do anything or not.
