The last-minute cancellation of Sunday's Cape Town Marathon left many runners angry about wasted time, effort and expense, leading them to vent on X
@AndiMakinana On the one year, I was a favourite to win the Cape Town Marathon, it gets cancelled! Unbelievable!
@BlackSir_SA So you telling me the organisers of the Cape Town Marathon didn’t know about the windy weather forecast to warn people earlier in the week, instead of wasting everyone’s time and money?
@antomukuwa I thought l knew pain, but Cape Town Marathon just redefined heartbreak for me.
@Siseko_12 This Cape Town Marathon trip was my first time in Cape Town and would have been my first marathon. I’m gutted.
@deelo_madihlaba Not all is lost, you’re still in the Mother City after all, try making the best out of it. Truly sorry that things happened this way man.
@Newzroom405 The Cape Town Marathon has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions. Over 20 000 runners were due to take part in the annual event.
@lweiiiii Gutted beyond words. Over 20 000 of us were ready to pour our hearts into those Cape Town streets, chasing dreams under the shadow of Table Mountain. All that training, those early mornings, the anticipation, swept away by the storm. It’s a bitter pill, and my heart aches for every runner feeling this void today. We’ll be back, stronger, but man, this one stings.
@NtebogengK80 No ways Cape Town Marathon – What are we going to do with All this fitness.
@ThembaRumbu CAPE TOWN SANLAM MARATHON CANCELLED just when I was about to win the race.
@MikeRamothwala GOOD MORNING – Let’s exercise not only will you lower you’re cholesterol and fat but will increase your energy levels that’s why I’m sympathising with TOP runners who can’t ran the Cape Town Marathon because of bad weather.
@MightiJamie Cape Town Marathon is saying “no refunds” even though they cancelled the event ! They are saying take the “we are sorry”.
@JuanitaKhumalo If the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon had gone ahead and people got injured or worse, lives lost, the conversation would’ve been, “The winds were so strong, why didn’t they cancel? They knew it was dangerous to race in such weather”. It’s such a difficult position to be in.
