Ex-president Thabo Mbeki’s utterances on the African Renaissance podcast about the state of the country and its leadership caused more than just a stir on X

@IvanMbongwa No amount of PR will tell me otherwise, I said it before and I’ll repeat again: ‘Education doesn’t mean 1 is clever or smart but they can be taught.’Thabo Mbeki is the true definition of an Educated Fool.

@SihleManq Bro, had the best economy for decades, beating a lot a apartheid presidents and being the best after 1994. Plus the last true functioning government. I don’t know how many fools can achieve that!

@GSloveafricar He might be on other things, but he must be acknowledged that HIV doesn’t cause Aids, there’s no relationship between the two, we were being led by the West.

@KingMntungwa Thabo Mbeki will never heal from the 2007 conference – the JG Zuma factor.

@MoyaProf Does Dr Ndlozi interview Mbeki when he’s high? Mbeki, a bitter pensioner of note and a hater of ‘Zuma’s 9 successful years’, must never be taken serious. When he claimed to be seeking business for SA across Africa, we know he was organising mining businesses for his wife who’s a billionaire today. Now he wants to force illegal immigrants on SA, very selfish. We reject this narcissistic attitude.

@Sqini55 Zuma’s nine years were far from progressive. He failed to take the land, failed to implement free education without bloodshed, and even arrested the #FeesMustFall activists who fought for it. The Guptas, Nkandla, Marikana, and Life Esidimeni tragedies all happened under his watch.

@motsohi_thabang Unfortunately he is completely low on contextual intelligence. He led the ANC elite that secured super comfortable wealth and power by protecting white wealth and abandoning their fellow South Africans in their depressing townships to the avalanche of illegal immigrants. The poor were excluded under apartheid. They are excluded again because they have been abandoned to marauding illegal immigrants. He is cocooned in elite suburbs. You must remember, his life has always been with the elites in exile. He cares less about living conditions of the poor in black townships.

@MsaneSmang59867 Kaunda was right – we should disregard whatever nonsense comes out of Mbeki’s mouth.

@Umalumewabantu Thabo Mbeki is trying to mount a comeback into the public discourse. Unfortunately, he finds himself overtaken by events as people’s priorities have shifted. We can no longer be told by politicians who our friends are & who our enemies are. #MadlangaCommission Hangwani Maumela

@KagisoIsoboy He is running away from the mess he created, whatever agreement or mines he benefits from in Zimbabwe it’s not our problem. We are going to win this war.

@Sensual_enigmar Stop entertaining him if you really think he is overtaken. He spoke about people who have no clue of their history, now I see who he was referring to.@KMchubaSouth Africans must prove Mbeki wrong, we can’t accept people come in the country illegally & enjoy the same rights as citizens after committing a crime. At no point does he call out fellow African governments & leaders for failing to provide services to their citizens. He’s talking hogwash.
