Congratulations to renowned broadcaster, cellist and classical music conductor Kutlwano Masote for his recent award.
What an amazing man he is, bringing so much joy into the lives of others, through his love of music. I never miss his weekend programme, Sundowner Classics, on SAFM.
Not only is his selection of music, so uplifting, but the knowledge he shares with his listeners about the musicians, their backgrounds and the stories behind the music of the ballets and operas they have composed, is so very interesting.
Masote has introduced and created a love of classical music to so many young people through his weekend programme.
It was refreshing, not to hear a single reference to racism, during his interview on SAFM radio this morning.
Sadly, we cannot change the past, but can we all at least try to build a happy, productive and successful future, for all South African’s? Let us refrain from spending so much time, energy and money on rubbing salt into wounds that should be allowed to heal with the soothing balm of love, care and respect. | Pam Lentin Essenwood
Sir,
Notwithstanding peripheral noise on who could have seen what, from what distance, and more, my take (on the apparent testicle grabbing incident between Connacht flank Josh Murphy and Bulls front-rower Jan-Hendrik Wessels in a URC match) is: If you have played the sport in that scrum/maul situation, the almost immediate reaction from Murphy to having his groin attacked cannot be doubted.
He stated in no uncertain terms that he had been grabbed and twisted, which does not leave room for much different interpretation.
If your rugby scribe Mike Greenaway wants to go to court, so be it. Better first call for an independent LIE DETECTION service to be done, which will give much better an indication of how things stand.
In my mind, I have no doubt which party will either decline or fail! | Gerald Hunwick Gillitts
By his passionate denouncement of US President Donald Trump, letter writer Colin Bosman’s words pay tribute to the success of the mainstream media for instilling narratives
For 10 years the “reputable” media has all but exhausted its vocabulary of scorn, loathing, ridicule and aversion regarding Donald Trump. So it is not surprising that he is seen by the likes of Colin Bosman as a “megalomaniac” who is a dire threat to “political sanity and democracy”.
What is an inflaming opinion of Trump’s various actions is the “lawfare” conducted by the Barack Obama/Joe Biden-appointed district judges, who have issued 143 injunctions seeking to halt or stymie Trump’s actions. Contrary to Bosman’s claim, Trump’s executive decisions are legitimate and have been upheld, either by Appeal Courts or the Supreme Court, six of whose nine justices Trump did not appoint.
For gross abuse of legal power and corruption, Bosman should consider the perversion of justice the Biden regime, perpetrated by its baseless “lawfare” against Trump, spying on over 160 Republican congressmen and senators, authorising banks to subpoena their bank records; persecuting Christians and parents as “domestic terrorists” for being pro-life and opposing the imposition of Marxist CRT and wokeism in schools.
Eliminating the couriers of drugs in international waters is sensible and legitimate. Cartels were warned of the consequences, but chose defiance. The same applies to the Democrat governors of Illinois and Oregon. Trump warned them to rein in the arson and violence within Chicago and Portland or he would send in the national guard. But they ignored him. For the sake of political theatre, they attempted to sue him for violating state rights ignoring the legal superiority of federal authority.
For the record, Democrat presidents JFK and LBJ legitimately ordered the national guard to subdue rioting and unrest in 1962, 1965, 1967 and 1968. In 1992, President HW Bush did likewise in Los Angeles. Thanks to the national guard, safety has returned to Washington DC and Memphis as a consequence of Trump’s Federal intervention against crime.
Trump’s use of tariffs is a huge success. It has remedied the lop-sided state of trade and is pouring hundreds of billions into the US, reducing taxes and living costs. The quid pro quo of the tariff policy is bringing job-creating motor, semi-conductor and ship-building industries to the US. The naysayers of Wall Street and the mainstream media have long since had to eat humble pie on that score.
With Trump’s job approval at 53% compared to the Democrats 26%, the mainstream media’s viewership and readership is dwindling. Truth, hitherto submerged or disparaged, is re-emerging. David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, which owns CBS, has appointed Bari Weiss, the female founder of , as CBS editor-in- chief to re-set CBS away from its left-wing bias.
Lawsuits are mounting exposing those who lied about Trump colluding with Russia in 2016, about Hunter Biden’s laptop being Russian disinformation, about January 6 being Trump-inspired insurrection. Proof of the Democrats’ theft of the 2020 election is another revelation looming.
As German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer noted about truth: It passes through three stages. First it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, third it is accepted as being self-evident. | DUNCAN DU BOIS Bluff
AN article in your edition of Thursday, October 30, Western Cape Magistrates Join Counterparts Demanding Reforms, Financial Security, refers.
As a practicing attorney, I can testify as to what a difficult job magistrates encounter on a daily basis.
Their terms and conditions of employment are not exactly satisfactory. Their working conditions are poor and the daily pressures they face are enormous. In essence their job is far from easy.
I strongly believe that the Department of Justice should be doing the necessary to improve their conditions of service. | MICHAEL BAGRAIM Cape Town
