2015 Two female suicide bombers blow themselves up in Kano, Nigeria, killing 15 people and injuring over 100.
2018 A US missionary is killed with arrows on North Sentinel Island, in the Bay of Bengal. The island is home to one of the few remaining primitive tribes on Earth – hunter-gatherer tribes who have had little or no contact with modern civilization and who would be highly susceptible to fatal infectious diseases that most people have acquired immunity from.
2021 Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam are exonerated for the 1965 killing of Malcolm X, a prominent civil rights activist, saying they were ‘wrongly convicted’.
2022 International Bureau of Weights and Measures votes to abandon the leap second, originally inserted in 1972 to reconcile atomic and astronomical time scales.
