The Indian Premier League is crammed full of some of the best Twenty20 talent in the men’s game and the 2026 edition has certainly been the case too. But how have the South Africa contingent fared?

While the competition boasts massive Indian names like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Sudharsan, the tournament has added a range of megastars for England, New Zealand, Australia and more.

South Africa certainly has a well-stocked list of participants. With South African fans following the IPL closely from both a sporting and betting perspective, resources covering betting sites in South Africa can also help readers compare where major cricket markets and IPL odds are available. Some of the best T20 players in the game turn out for the Proteas, but how are they faring in the IPL this season?

Huge names like Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi and Aiden Markram are all playing their parts for their teams, but one man is outshining them all. We have taken a look at how your favourite South Africa stars are performing at the 2026 IPL

Dewald Brevis (CSK)

Dewald Brevis has struggled to have a particularly big impact for a Chennai Super Kings side that have also been out of touch so far. After starting three matches he has headed out to bat twice, notching a top score off 41 and being dismissed for a duck in his other outing. With a strike rate of 124.24, Brevis has scored fairly quickly, but the batter is yet to really catch fire for CSK.

David Miller (DC)

Six matches have come and gone for David Miller, with the South Africa star batting five times. The destructive batter has been another that has found consistent runs tough to come by. 101 runs have come at an average of 50.50, with three not outs really plumping up his stats.

While DC are very much in the equation for a playoff spot this season, the middle-order powerhouse is yet to really find the sort of form that saw DC convinced to bring him in from Lucknow Super Giants.

Tristan Stubbs (DC)

Unlike David Miller, Tristan Stubbs has been able to star for DC, rubbing shoulders with the likes of KL Rahul at the top of their run-scoring charts. With 196 runs scored at an average of 65.33, Stubbs has brought about his fluent style of play with the bat, returning a top score of 60 not out, hitting 14 boundaries and smashing six maximums.

Coming into bat after Miller has suited Stubbs well so far, while he has also shown his ability to hop up and down the order where needed. Stubbs has been a real success at DC so far and will target helping DC towards the playoffs this season.

Lungi Ngidi (DC)

Lungi Ngidi has been enjoying a solid IPL campaign so far, with the quick knocking over seven opponents in six matches. With an economy rate of 8.70, Ngidi has been slightly more expensive than he would like, although the pace he offers means that if a batter picks his line, then the ball will fly into the stands. If DC are to go deep at the tournament, Ngidi will be central to their push as he tries to be the focal point for the side with the ball.

Kagiso Rabada (GT)

As South Africa’s premier bowler, Kagiso Rabada always has eyes on him wherever he goes, and that is no different in this season’s IPL. 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 22.40 is a decent return, with Rabada combining well with Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan and Mohammed Siraj.

The pace out of the hand that Rabada can generate makes him a real threat but, like Ngidi, if he gets it even slightly wrong, the ball will end up in the stands. An economy rate of 9.73 is fairly high for a bowler of his quality, meaning the focus for the quick will be on building more pressure with fewer run scoring deliveries that will cause more wicket-taking opportunities as the batters are forced to go looking for the runs.

Aiden Markram (LSG)

Aiden Markram is one of Lucknow Super Giants’ premier batters in a season that has struggled to take off. His tally of 162 run in seven innings is fairly low, but he has still outscored the likes of Nichols Pooran and Rishabh Pant.

A top score of 45 and an average of 23.14 shows Markram has been solid if unspectacular so far. The main focus for arguably South Africa’s best batter will be on breaching the 50-run mark in an innings and trying to build a big score.

Anrich Nortje (LSG)

After transferring from Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2026 season, Anrich Nortje has struggled to make an impact after playing a single match. 24 deliveries resulted in 39 runs conceded without a wicket taken. That has been Nortje influence on what has been a disappointing IPL so far.

George Linde (LSG)

Brought in by LSG as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, George Linde has played in two matches and scored just 23 runs so far. While he has been given few opportunities, Linde has struggled to grab any moment by the scruff of the neck and unless things change dramatically, it is unlikely his 2026 IPL season will be seen as a success.

Quinton de Kock (MI)

Quinton de Kock has only played in two IPL matches so far, but what an impact he has had as he smashed an unbeaten score of 112 from 60 against Punjab Kings. Despite this, MI slipped to a frustrating loss as the wicket-keeper batsman saw his efforts fail to ignite his side.

A subsequent score of 13 has not dampened his average of 125.00, but this will likely fall quickly unless another century is on the cards. With a strike rate of 176.05 after two matches, de Kock boasts a very respectable scoring rate, which is nothing new to avid South Africa cricket fans.

Ryan Rickelton (MI)

Ryan Rickelton has played more than double the number of innings than de Kock, and yet he only possesses 12 more runs. His average of 27.40 is disappointing considering his undoubted talent, while a high score of 81 means his other four innings have amounted to 56 runs. With more maximums (12) than boundaries (nine), Rickelton finds the fence with ease on his day. The only problem is it seems his days are too few and far between.

Corbin Bosch (MI)

One match, one wicket and 11 runs scored. Corbin Bosch is having to bide his time to make it into the MI team right now, with a range of players standing ahead of him. To his credit, he did score his 11 runs with a strike rate of 275.00, but this was clearly not enough to convince those above him that he deserves to start more consistently.

Marco Jansen (PBKS)

Marco Jansen has been a solid part of a Punjab Kings side that is currently setting the pace in the IPL. Five wickets in six matches may sound like a disappointing total, but he is their second-highest wicket-taker.

Clearly, PBKS have put more focus on batting, with their four best batters currently sitting in the top 15 highest run scorers in the IPL this year. It is likely that Jansen will have to really dig in to take wickets for a side that are more inclined to set big totals than they are to defending smaller targets.

Nandre Burger (RR)

Nandre Burger has done fairly well for Rajasthan Royals with the ball, taking eight wickets in seven appearances. With a best of 2/21 and an economy rate of 8.45, in these metrics he is only just been behind English superstar Jofra Archer with the ball.

Donovan Ferreira (RR)

Donovan Ferreira has enjoyed his most prolific season in IPL cricket, although that was hardly difficult after scoring eight runs in 2024 and one run in 2025. In 2026, Ferreira has scored 97 runs in six innings at an average of 24.25. With the Royals looking in good touch and eyeing a potential shot at the playoffs, Ferreira may have a real chance to showcase his quality on the biggest stage.

Heinrich Klassen (SRH)

2026 has been a blockbuster season for runs for Heinrich Klassen. Passing by 1800 runs in the IPL for his career this term, Klassen has amassed 320 runs at 53.33. Still on course to break his personal record of 487 runs scored in 2025, Klassen has already returned three half-centuries along with 22 boundaries and 13 maximums.

Impressively, Klassen has tended to come in at number four, which can be quite an awkward position with the batter often needing to come in and stem the flow of wickets or smash the ball from the first delivery. Klassen has made a name for himself as a consistent run scorer, with his overall average of 41.86 across 56 IPL matches very impressive.

Others

Connor Esterhuizen (GT) – Yet to play in the IPL.

Matthew Breetzke (LSG) – Yet to make an appearance in IPL 2026.

Kwena Maphaka (RR) – Yet to make an appearance in IPL 2026.

Lhuan-dre Pretorious (RR) – Played in one match in 2026 scoring zero runs from two deliveries.

Gerald Coetzee (SRH) – Yet to make an appearance in IPL 2026.

So far, the major success comes in the form of Klassen, who will interest many when it comes to scoring the most runs across the campaign.

Quinton de Kock has shown flashes of his brilliance, but his time in the middle has been curtailed. Tristan Stubbs has also impressed with the bat, while Kagiso Rabada has looked solid with the ball, too.

As far as failing to make a significant impact, there are a handful of players that are yet to play matches for their sides.

David Miller has not been quite as explosive as some would have expected him to be, although there is still plenty of time for him to make an impact as the tournament continues to heat up.
