The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Watervaal arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly raping, kidnapping and intimidating his mother at Magangeni village.

According to preliminary reports, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at around 6.30pm, the suspect returned home and demanded money from his mother. When she told him she had no cash, he reportedly became aggressive toward her, who reportedly has a medical condition.

“The suspect allegedly insulted and attacked her mother and suddenly raped her. The victim tried to resist, but she was overpowered,” SAPS said in a media statement.

After the alleged assault, the suspect reportedly locked the victim inside the house and left. The victim later managed to get help from members of the community, who unlocked the house and freed her. She then reported the incident to the police, and a case of rape was registered at Watervaal SAPS.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday, December 15, and is scheduled to appear before the Watervaal Magistrate Court on Wednesday, December 17, facing charges of rape, intimidation, and kidnapping.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
