A stage adaptation of the beloved children’s story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be performed at Theatre on the Square in Sandton from March 31 to April 11.

The production is presented by Pretoria Youth Theatre and Daphne Kuhn and follows the company’s previous family production of The Wizard of Oz, which was staged at the venue in 2024.

Based on the classic books by Roald Dahl, the musical adventure features songs from productions such as Willy Wonka Jr., Wonka and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film soundtrack, including “I Eat More” and the well-known “Pure Imagination”.

The show stars Sibu Molaba and Jaden Taferner as the eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. It is directed by Kerry-Anne Beldon, produced by Clive Martin and features choreography and vocal direction by Virtuous Kandemiri.

Organisers say the production is aimed at audiences of all ages and is designed as a family-friendly theatre experience during the school holiday period.

Performances will run daily at Theatre on the Square on Nelson Mandela Square, with shows scheduled at 10am and 2pm during the first week and 2pm performances during the second week. On April 2, three performances will take place at 10am, 2pm and 6pm.

Tickets cost R140 and are available through Webtickets, with special discounts available for school groups and block bookings.
