The race for this season’s Nedbank Cup title has taken an intriguing turn after the confirmation of the semi-final fixtures, setting up a compelling mix of top-flight experience and lower-division ambition.

The draw has paired TS Galaxy with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford FC, while Durban City FC will face fellow second-tier outfit Casric Stars in the other semi-final.

With two teams from the Motsepe Foundation Championship still in contention, this year’s competition has delivered the kind of unpredictability that has long defined South Africa’s premier knockout tournament.

Milford FC have emerged as one of the competition’s surprise packages, producing disciplined and resilient performances to reach the final four.

Their reward is a clash with TS Galaxy, the only remaining club that has previously lifted the Nedbank Cup.

Galaxy’s triumph in 2019 proved their pedigree in knockout football and could make them favourites heading into the semi-finals.

The Betway Premiership outfit will be wary, however, of a Milford side that has already shown it is capable of upsetting more established opposition.

The other semi-final carries its own fascinating storyline.

Durban City have enjoyed a promising first season back in the Betway Premiership and their progression to the semi-finals has further underlined the progress made under experienced despite their coaching troubles.

Standing between them and the final are Casric Stars, who have become one of the tournament’s most compelling stories.

Their run to the semi-finals has highlighted the growing competitiveness of teams outside the top flight.

With R7 million in prize money and qualification for continental football on the line, the semi-finals promise high stakes and the possibility of another memorable twist in this year’s unpredictable Nedbank Cup.
