Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has lifted the lid on his side’s recent improvement in front of goal, attributing their attacking upturn to growing cohesion and a clearer understanding of their game model.

Amakhosi extended their winning run to four matches with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday, continuing a resurgence that has reignited their push for a CAF Confederation Cup spot. What has stood out during this run is not just the results, but the goals.

Chiefs have scored eight times across those four victories, averaging two goals per game — a marked improvement for a side that had previously struggled for consistency in the final third.

Earlier in the season, their progress was largely built on defensive solidity, with clean sheets forming the backbone of their climb up the Betway Premiership standings. While that defensive discipline remains intact, the added attacking output has given the team a more complete edge heading into the final stretch.

Kaze believes the shift has been a natural progression of work done on the training ground.

“We have a game model that we’ve been working on, different ways to get inside the box, create overloads all over the pitch but I believe now we understand each other better between the players and that gives us more opportunities to score.”

That improved understanding has translated into better movement, sharper combinations and a greater variety of attacking options. Chiefs now look more comfortable breaking down compact defences — an area that previously posed significant challenges.

“It’s true that we’ve scored seven goals in the last three games, we need to keep that going into the final stretch of the season because I believe we do create enough opportunities to score even more than these.”

The emphasis, however, remains on consistency. While the recent numbers are encouraging, Kaze has made it clear that sustaining this level of output will be key if Chiefs are to secure their continental ambitions.

Their next assignment presents an opportunity to build on that momentum, as they travel to face Magesi FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium — a side currently struggling at the bottom of the standings and conceding goals at an alarming rate.

It is the type of fixture that demands focus rather than complacency. For Chiefs, the equation is becoming clearer with each passing game. The defensive foundation remains strong, but it is the newfound attacking rhythm that could ultimately define their season.

If they can maintain both, Amakhosi will not only secure a Top 3 finish — they may well head into the closing weeks as one of the most balanced sides in the league.
