Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has welcomed the return of captain Brandon Petersen, highlighting the goalkeeper’s importance to the team’s structure and confidence.
Petersen marked his return from injury in style by keeping another clean sheet in the victory over TS Galaxy, underlining his value at a crucial stage of the campaign.
His absence had exposed some instability at the back, with Chiefs rotating options in goal and struggling for consistency. However, his return has immediately restored calm and organisation within the defensive unit.
“He’s our captain so he’s a player that gives us confidence as well as stability in the back, a leader on and off the field as well so we’re happy that he’s back and we hope his performances will be good going forward,” said Kaze.
Chiefs’ recent resurgence, which includes a four-match winning streak — their best run of the season — has coincided with the return of key players, and Petersen’s presence is expected to be central in maintaining that momentum.
Beyond his shot-stopping, Petersen’s leadership remains invaluable. His communication and positioning help organise the backline, offering reassurance to a defence that had shown signs of vulnerability in his absence.
With Amakhosi firmly in the race for a CAF Confederation Cup spot, consistency will be key in the final weeks.
Petersen’s return not only strengthens the team defensively but also reinforces the mentality required to sustain results.
As the pressure builds, Chiefs will look to their captain to anchor their push — providing the stability needed to complement their growing confidence further up the pitch.
