A heavyweight CAF Champions League semi-final clash awaits as Espérance de Tunis host Mamelodi Sundowns in a fixture loaded with quality across the pitch on Sunday in North Africa.

With a place in the final at stake, individual moments are likely to decide the outcome — and these five players could prove decisive over the two legs.

1.Bryan Leon (Sundowns)

Sundowns’ attacking threat has been spread across the pitch, but Bryan Leon has emerged as their most reliable finisher in this campaign.

With three goals in the competition, he leads the scoring charts for the Brazilians and has consistently delivered in key moments.

His movement inside the box and ability to find space against compact defences will be crucial, particularly away from home where chances may be limited. If Sundowns are to secure a valuable result in Tunisia, Leon’s clinical edge could make the difference.

2.Nuno Santos (Sundowns)

The heartbeat of Sundowns’ creative play, Nuno Santos has been central to everything positive in their Champions League run. With two goals and four assists, he leads the team in goal involvements in the competition.

Operating between the lines, Santos has the vision and technical quality to unlock even the most disciplined defences.

In what is expected to be a tactical battle, his ability to dictate tempo and create chances could be Sundowns’ biggest weapon.

3. Aboubacar Diakite (Esperance)

At just 19 years old, Aboubacar Diakite has already established himself as Espérance’s main attacking outlet in this competition.

The youngster leads their scoring charts and has shown maturity beyond his years on the continental stage.

His pace, directness and composure in front of goal make him a constant threat, particularly in transition. Against a Sundowns defence that prefers to dominate possession, Diakite’s ability to exploit spaces could be key.

4.Jayden Adams (Sundowns)

While Teboho Mokoena remains the established leader in Sundowns’ midfield, Jayden Adams has emerged as one of the standout performers in 2026.

His growing “Grootman” presence has added a new dimension to the Brazilians’ midfield, combining physicality with composure on the ball.

Adams’ resurgence at international level further underlines his importance, and his ability to control midfield battles on foreign soil will be vital.

5.Onuche Ogbelu (Esperance)

The midfield contest could ultimately define this tie, and Onuche Ogbelu will be central to Espérance’s plans.

The Nigerian midfielder has become a key figure despite his young age, offering both defensive solidity and tactical discipline.

Ogbelu was instrumental in Espérance’s elimination of Al Ahly in the previous round, and his role will be to disrupt the rhythm of Sundowns’ midfield duo.

If he succeeds in unsettling Mokoena and Adams, Espérance’s chances of controlling the game increase significantly.

With quality on both sides, this semi-final promises to be finely balanced.

Whether it is moments of brilliance in attack or control in midfield, these five players are set to shape the narrative of a clash that could define the Champions League season.
