South African football is heading toward one of its most dramatic finishes in recent memory with the Betway Premiership title race, relegation battle and CAF Champions League final all colliding at the same time.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates continue to push each other relentlessly in a title race that now appears destined to go down to the final day of the season.

Pirates missed a major opportunity to place themselves firmly in control after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by Durban City FC at Orlando Amstel Arena over the weekend.

That result handed Sundowns renewed belief and ensured the defending champions remain in pole position heading into the final round of fixtures.

At the same time, Sundowns are also balancing the enormous pressure of continental football after securing a tense 1-0 victory over AS FAR Rabat in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Aubrey Modiba’s superb free-kick handed Miguel Cardoso’s side a narrow advantage before next week’s decisive second leg in Morocco.

However, the encounter itself was not without controversy after crowd trouble broke out during the second half while VAR was also abandoned following a technical malfunction before play resumed.

Elsewhere, the relegation battle has become equally intense.

Magesi FC, Marumo Gallants, Orbit College FC and Chippa United remain locked in a desperate fight for survival heading into the final stretch of the campaign.

With pressure building at both the top and bottom of the standings, the final week of the South African football season promises tension, drama and potentially historic moments across multiple fronts.
