Bluetooth speakers have come a long way over the last decade, and you now have plenty of options when it comes to picking one that delivers great value for under R2,000.
Of course, it depends on your needs, like how portable you want it to be and how loud you actually want to listen to your content.
Even at the lower end of the market, portability seems to be the most important feature of a good Bluetooth speaker.
Here are the five best Bluetooth speaker options you can buy in 2025.
Coming in at just under R2,000 at Makro, the JBL Flip 6 is another high-quality offering from the audio brand. It has punchy sound with strong bass while still being portable. It’s relatively small but allows for up to 12 hours of playback. This speaker has the best overall sound quality on this list.
At a little over a thousand rand from Xiaomi, this little powerhouse still delivers high-quality sound, true wireless stereo, and also features IPX7 waterproofing. With a 13-hour battery, it’s great value for money.
This one might not be readily available even from Sony South Africa at the moment, but a quick search revealed this compact speaker sells for around R1,000. The marketing of this tiny speaker mentions its ‘extra bass’ feature, and sound tests confirm it delivers impressively in this department. With a 16-hour battery and IP67-rated waterproofing, it’s the best-suited speaker on this list in terms of portability.
Like the XB-13, this will take some hunting online. At just under R1,500, this speaker delivers mid-to-high audio quality, so you get what you pay for essentially. The biggest selling point of this speaker, though, is definitely the battery life, with 24 hours of playback. Add in the IPX7 waterproof and stereo pairing ability, and you’ve got a great allrounder.
Though not currently in stock on Amazon.co.za, it’s worth waiting to see if that changes. At around the R2,000 mark, this speaker offers the best immersive 360-degree sound on this list. It also boasts IP67-rated and has a battery life of 14 hours.
For me, the best option would be the JBL Flip 6 for its total sound output and overall features, but you can confidently pick any from this list according to your preferences, knowing you’ve made a good investment.
