With the December payday around the corner, many South Africans may have decided to stay at home with rising costs of just about everything - and having a quality home entertainment system will be a priority.
There’s nothing worse than watching the latest episode of your favourite action show or movie, and not having great sound to go with your big screen TV.
This is especially important when the biggest show on Netflix is set to launch more episodes on Boxing Day and then conclude the series on December 31. I’m talking about Stranger Things, of course, and shows like that are best enjoyed with high-quality sound.
That means a home theatre system is a must-have, but just how much do you have to spend to get something decent?
One of the best entries on the sub-R2000 segment is the Hisense HS214 108W 2.1Ch Bluetooth Soundbar 2.1. Despite its model name that sounds more like a spaceship, this soundbar delivers high-quality sound with a built-in subwoofer to ensure you have enough bass.
At around the R1600 mark from Makro, this unit delivers about as good a sound experience as you’d expect for the money.
If you’re prepared to spend a little more though, then the Hisense 3.1 Channel 480W Bluetooth 5.3 Dolby Digital Plus Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer is for you.
At R1,999 on amazon.co.za right now, this unit delivers amazing sound and bass and 3.1-channel surround sound. With a wireless subwoofer as well as the soundbar, this is a step up from soundbars with internal subwoofers.
For me, this is the clear winner in the R2000 segment of the market and can actually compete with some of the more expensive mid-range home theatre systems at the moment.
