My understanding is that the interpretation of ‘municipal lands’ is the area outside the boundaries of residential properties. And, by definition, these areas belong to the City. Is this the property of the City of Cape Town Municipality?
Since the first week of August, I have been trying to get the City to clear the overgrown grass outside my property. The City, via all its departments, has insisted that its not its job and that I must clean it myself. This was the language that was relayed to me via a City of Cape Town employee who was sent to my residence to tell me exactly that.
I can mention the names of a few people who occupy high positions within the City of Cape Town human resources, but they will obviously, as is the drill within the corridors of power, deny involvement. I was told by an official that there is a by-law that states that it is the responsibility of residents to clean outside their properties. I am still awaiting a copy of that by-law.
Our area here in Parktown is in a pathetic state due to the refusal of the City of Cape Town to clear the overgrown grass outside our properties. This after repeated requests for it to do exactly that.
Can the City please explain and finally put this matter to rest?
