ON Saturday The Bridgetown Theatre Company (BTC), from Athlone Silvertown, will share the stage with Vinette Ebrahim, also known as Charmaine in the popular SABC2 soapie, 7de Laan. This Breakfast with the Stars event will be hosted by Rondebosch East Primary School in their school hall from 9am. The showcase is in celebration of women’s month. In attendance will be women from several Western Cape old age homes, who will be treated to a sumptuous free breakfast.

As part of the show’s entertainment with Vinette Ebrahim, BTC will perform their popular comedy Blowing Candles. The production is about a group of women who meet on a weekly basis at their local gym. BTC’s older women’s group, fondly known as The Royal Queens, will also perform line dance routines. Also on the programme will be BTC’s crooner Basil Isaacs, who’ll serenade some golden oldies. He will be accompanied on stage by the BTC show dancers.

On Tuesday August 18 BTC’s youth will feature their musical titled Hashtag#us as part of The Artscape Arts Festival at the Artscape Theatre complex at 7.30pm. The production relays the story of a love triangle between two young men and a young woman.

Through hip hop dance, rap and contemporary song the musical displays how love overcomes evil for the greater good of two star struck lovers.

Hashtag#us stars Jaydine Ross, Ryan Brown, Abduragmaan Adams, Tanya Johnson, Chelsea Pedro, Kaylam Jacobs, Ashlyn Daniels, Caelina-Joy Charles, Nicole Ross, Wyden Adams, Dillon Paulse, Kim Abrahams, Clint Van der Broeck and Wade Petersen. It is choreographed by Jaydine Ross and directed by Marian Volkwyn.

The Artscape Arts Festival is giving youth the opportunity to showcase their talent on a professional stage. It hopes to stimulate a love for theatre and performing arts, while creating a sense of self-esteem, pride and achievement. The festival encourages nation-building as people and their parents from different cultural backgrounds come together to experience a common goal.
