THE Fugard Theatre Bioscope’s 2014 & 2015 World Cinema Season is in full swing. The series sees the Bioscope partnering with The Royal Opera House, Royal Ballet and Bolshoi Ballet Companies and Great Britain's National Theatre Live Season.

This Sunday at 11am Donizetti’s romantic comedy of rural life, L'elisir d'amore, comes from the Royal Opera House stage. Sung in Italian, it features Laurent Pelly’s work, which matches sentiment with tomfoolery.

Daniele Rustioni conducts Lucy Crowe as the dazzling soprano lead (Adina) – the most sophisticated woman in the village who is loved from afar by Vittorio Grigolo’s handsome, but shy Nemorino.

Nemorino meets a rival in a braggart Sergeant Belcore, until a love potion sold to him by Bryn Terfel’s larger-than-life quack, Dr Dulcamara, gives him a powerful dose of courage – with comic and touching results.

Look out for Of Mice and Men(January 11) and The Nutcracker(February 1) .

l Tickets: R100.
