Cape Town - Two brothers have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking after R16 million worth of drugs was found at a lab in Century City.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau and the Counter Narcotics and Gangs units worked together while following up leads on a previous matter in Bellville.
At the premises in Century City, they found 12kg of cocaine worth an estimated R10.8m, 2 500 mandrax tablets worth an estimated R100 000 as well as 18kg of tik worth an estimated value of R5.4m.
Hani said the brothers appeared in court yesterday.
“Two brothers have in a space of one day been arrested again, on a charge of drug trafficking and will be appearing in the Cape Town Court.
“This comes after their initial arrest on December 11 2022.
“It is reported that members of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau together with Counter Narcotics and Gangs did a follow-up investigation on the Bellville matter after the two brothers were arrested on the N1 on December 11.
“Follow-up investigations were done on the keys and tags that were found in their possession on the December 11 during their arrest.
“Through preliminary investigations, the team identified premises in Century City. The accused accompanied the team.
“The premises were opened using the keys that were found on the accused on December 11.
“Upon entering the premises the team discovered that the premises was used as a drug laboratory.
“The premises were further searched and 12kg cocaine to an estimated value of R10.8m, 2 500 mandrax tablets to an estimated value of R100 000 as well as 18kg tik to an estimated value of R5.4m was found which amounts to a total seizure worth R16 300 000.”
