Cape Town - Three suspects are expected in various Cape Town courts this week following their arrests on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said Atlantis police members were busy with patrols on Thursday afternoon when they confiscated a zip gun and ammunition.
“When the patrol vehicle drove down Grosvener Avenue in Saxonsea at around 1.15pm, they noticed a male who appeared to be disoriented when he saw the patrol vehicle. The police members approached the man and searched him and confiscated a zip gun with ammunition. The 36-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
“Police members of the Provincial Extortion Team pursued information and drove to an identified address in Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East. Upon searching the premises they confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R20 000. They arrested and detained a 45-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Swartbooi.
These arrests follow another arrest made in Operation Restore, where members conducted patrols on Thursday in Khayelitsha.
“When they entered A section, they noticed six males who became restless when the patrol vehicle approached. The police members gave them no option to flee, searched the males and confiscated a 9 mm pistol with ammunition found in the possession of one of the males. The 22-year-old male was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition,” said Swartbooi.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis, Athlone and Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges.
