One lucky bidder will drive away in style with a 1973 Jaguar V12 E-Type, the car which the late Enzo Ferrari called “one of the most beautiful cars ever designed”, when it goes under the hammer at the Stephan Welz auction on Tuesday 23 April in Johannesburg.
The auction will offer both live and online bidding.
This fully-restored concours-winning car in red, with black interior, is valued between R350 000 and R450 000 and is one of the most sought-after versions of the E-Type. Manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975, it is cited as one of the top 100 most beautiful cars of all time.
According to collectable car specialist Jack Rosewitz the meticulous restoration by a well-known Jaguar specialist took more than four years to complete.
“The Jaguar 2+2 is not only in a league of its own on the style front, but has family appeal too, with two small seats for children behind the two front seats,” he sad.
SILVER WRAITH
Also going under the hammer will be a 1980 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith II, one of only two in South Africa, in dark metallic blue, with an Everflex roof and dark blue interior. The Wraiths were built on a long-wheelbase chassis and the bodies were all constructed by hand. The car is in excellent condition and has purposely not been restored.
These two classic cars will form part of the live online bidding platform that will be managed through Europe’s leading portal for live art and antiques auctions, which is now operating in South Africa. Users of the website can search catalogues and place their bids over the internet in real time, with live audio and video feeds recreating the auction room atmosphere – all from the comfort of their laptop or computer.
The auction will be happening at 13 Biermann Avenue, Rosebank. Pre-auction viewing will be open to the public at no charge from today until Sunday from 10am to 5pm daily. For more information e-mail or call the Auctioneers on 011 880 3125. - Star Motoring
