Formula One enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the current state of play in the Grand Prix field from international F1 expert and TV technical pundit Gary Anderson.
Anderson, the technical voice from pit lane heard on the F1 coverage broadcast on SuperSport, will be joining the Motorsport Legends Association as guest speaker at the association’s annual dinner function on April 25.
The Motor Sport Legends Dinner is held as a fundraiser for the Motorsport Legends Benevolent Fund, a fund that provides emergency relief for members of the motorsport fraternity in times of distress. The function is held in the Ballroom at Gallagher Estate and tables are available at a cost of R11 000 per table of 10. This includes entry into a draw for a number of valuable prizes.
Anderson will travel down for the dinner fresh from the Bahrain GP to provide an insight into the 2013 Grand Prix season after the first four races of the year. He will share with us his knowledge and thoughts on the Grand Prix season as it catches its breath before heading into the intense schedule of races through to the summer break in August. This is a rare opportunity for Grand Prix enthusiasts to have access to somebody right up close to F1 action.
FOUR DECADES IN FORMULA ONE
Anderson has been around motor racing in Europe for the past 40 years, starting as the chief mechanic for the Brabham F1 team in the mid-seventies. He designed the first Jordan Grand Prix car - the 1991 Jordan 191 that launched the career of Michael Schumacher at the Belgian Grand Prix that year.
The following year Anderson was appointed as technical director of Jordan and remained with the team, despite offers from McLaren and Ferrari, through to 1998. The first Jordan GP win came at Spa that year with Damon Hill in a car overseen by Anderson prior to him moving on to Stewart Grand Prix.
He made a significant development input to the new Stewart-Ford SF3 which won its first race at the European GP in September 1999 with Johnny Herbert at the wheel. As the Stewart team morphed into Jaguar Racing, he moved to the US, working with Adrian Reynard until Jordan coaxed him back to F1 for the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
At the end of 2003 Gary went into semi-retirement working as a consultant to Dallara and taking on a number of assignments in F1 journalism and TV commentating.
