Durban — The wind in eThekwini wasn’t the only thing blowing with force, as Durban High School’s Blue Typhoon blew away Woodhouse Grove on the rugby field. DHS hosted English side Woodhouse Grove in three rugby fixtures and, like last week’s eThekwini wind, left the English in ruins.

First XV head coach Peter Engledow said it was a very good outing and experience for his side to play international opposition because it would contribute to the remainder of the local season.

“We were very fortunate to get a game against this opposition, especially after Parktown Boys’ High School – who we were supposed to play last weekend – pulled out. It was a good showing given that our team last played a month ago – on Founders Day against Michaelhouse,” he said.

Engledow added that this result would help their preparation for Northwood as it allowed for rugby fitness and game time.

He said they would have a full week of training and hoped to have a good result against Northwood School.

This season, DHS’s first XV have remained undefeated at home following victories against Westville Boys, KZN Development and Michaelhouse. This accompanied away victories at the Wildeklawer Festival – where they won all games; St Charles and a famous victory against Maritzburg College at Goldstones.

They drew against Northwood in an away game.

DHS was highly represented during the recent u18 Craven Week – where they had nine representatives. At its conclusion, Mahle Sithole was selected for SA Schools while Zingce Simka and Akahlulwa Boqwana made the SA Schools A.

Their remaining games are against Northwood and Jeppe Boys’ High School – both at home.

DHS RESULTS v WOODHOUSE GROVE (England):

  • 1st XV: 50-0
  • 2nd/3rd XV: 24-7
  • 16A: 62-0
