Durban – Although details are sketchy, police are investigating cases of attempted murder and hijacking after a woman was hijacked and shot in Chatsworth.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said a woman was shot at and her vehicle hijacked in Chatsworth on Monday, December 19.

“It is alleged that a woman was parking her vehicle in her driveway when she was accosted by the suspect. She reportedly threw her vehicle keys on the floor and ran towards the house. The suspect allegedly shot at her and she sustained a gunshot wound. The suspect then drove off with her vehicle,” Gwala said.

According to information from Chatsworth Crime Watch, a silver Toyota Hilux double cab was hijacked on Monday evening around 7pm.

It is believed the vehicle was taken in Woodhurst Drive.

Information gathered indicated that the driver was a few metres from the house when she was accosted.

In a panic, she threw the keys away and fled back to the house.

During that time, two bystanders, a man and a woman were shot. The man was shot in the arm and the woman was shot in the hip.

In a video of the hijacking, seconds after leaving the driveway, the vehicle stops at a bend and a few seconds later, the brake lights go off.

A woman that had got into the vehicle while it was in the driveway is later seen running away.

Neighbours are then seen ducking – this is believed to be when the shots were fired.
