Seasoned radio broadcaster Thabiso Sikwane’s death over the weekend was announced by her family.
Prior to her death, Thabiso appeared on her ex-husband Thato Sikwane, more popularly known as DJ Fresh’s podcast “WAW! What a Week with DJ Fresh”.
Thabiso was also a producer of the podcast and this was the first time in her lengthy broadcasting career that she had been interviewed by DJ Fresh.
The first part of the interview was uploaded on Friday, August 30, a day before her passing.
The 50-minute episode was emotional on both broadcasters, as they shared stories from their 20 years of marriage. The two announced their divorce in February 2022, after two decades of marriage.
DJ Fresh in a caption wrote: “Thabiso Sikwane‼️ That’s post …That’s the guest on WAW What A Week today. We have known each other since she read news on my show in 1998, & this is the first time I interview her. I’M Excited & nervous ‼️”
During the interview, Thabiso got calls from her children, her son Thato Sikwane Junior and DJ Fresh’s daughter, Reneilwe, and some of her family members, who were able to give Thabiso her flowers before her untimely passing.
Viewers who watched the interview have expressed that the interview, in a way, gave the family a way to say their goodbyes before her death.
The renowned DJ, in a separate Instagram video, posted after the news of Thabiso’s death trended, expressed his grief and shed light into her passing, which happened at 6.30am on Saturday.
“We are told it could have been a cardiac event, but what would have caused it hasn’t been ascertained. We await a post-mortem that will give everyone clarity because it doesn’t make sense to anyone how this would happen out of the blue.”
