Renowned for her soulful voice and captivating performances, Mikhale Jones has successfully independently released her second album ‘Too Many Promises’.
After years of navigating the complexities of the music industry, Mikhale Jones boldly reclaimed her artistic independence, when she left Def Jam.
With the support of her talented team, Mikhale Jones has produced a body of work that is a true reflection of her artistry and personal journey.
The young artist describes the journey of taking things into her own hands as; “amazing, scary, liberating, tiring and just empowering”.
“I'm learning so much. There's so much back end that happens that you’re not exposed to when you’re signed. I’m learning a lot about the admin side of it.
“But I’m also learning how to ask myself important questions about my art in order to make it more interesting for the viewer/listener.”
Mikhale Jones is very proud of her second project, releasing it with no label or funding. “That alone is so priceless for me.
“Putting together amazing quality music with quality people who believe in the music just as much as I do.”
She describes the project as a blend of Neo-Soul, R&B, and Hip-Hop, music that she can dance to while telling deeply personal stories.
“For me R&B and Neo-soul is all about telling stories and I have so much to say for those who are interested to listen.”
Mikhale Jones’ album release follows her victory in the MTN Pulse Virals competition, which served as a powerful reminder of her capabilities.
“This was my favourite project to create, I was surrounded by amazing humans who also happened to be extremely talented too!”
It took two months to complete the project and it was a reminder to Mikhale Jones what she is capable of, especially after leaving the record label.
“After leaving the label I dealt with quite a bit of self doubt and for some reason saw this project as a mountain that couldn’t be climbed because I don’t have the label budget etc.
“But the day I called Ammo And Yoshi to start our studio sessions, was the day I realised, I am who I am before a label and after a label too and that will never change for as long as I stay true to my love for all things creative/music.”
It’s safe to say that Mikhale Jones is breaking barriers. “In order to feel empowered or liberated in any form one has to push through unwanted and not so easy challenges.
“Only once you make it through to the other side are you reminded how unstable and capable you are!”
