South African superstar Tyla, keeps winning! The star recently accepted the Global Force award, at the Billboard No1s event.
Tyla was honoured among international stars Usher, Victoria Monet, Lucky Daye and Luther Vandross.
In her acceptance speech, Tyla reflected on what the award means to her as an artist coming from South Africa.
“This is crazy that I'm being honoured tonight, what the heck yeah just thank you so much.
“I remember when everyone used to feel like this was so unattainable, especially from where I’m from and the fact that I'm able to be here today and just live out a dream that never felt real
“It's just such a beautiful thing to be able to experience so I thank everybody. Thank you to everyone who cares to learn about other cultures, other styles of music and truly appreciates it and loves it for what it is.
“Because it's not just a trend it's not just a dance move it's not just a he it's not just a sound you know like it's culture you know so I just thank everyone that is appreciative of it.”
Last year, Tyla made a major splash with “Water,” earning her first Hot 100 Top 10 hit, spending eight weeks at No. 1 on mainstream R&B Hip Hop Airplay, spending 46 weeks and counting, at No. 1 on our US Afrobeats Songs chart, and winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance Grammy award earlier this year.
