Durban chef to shine at Appetite Festival

Durban - Warren Franz, executive chef at Durban’s uShaka Marine World, will be joining other big names in the culinary world as he cooks up a storm at the Appetite Festival in Pretoria this weekend.

While doing demos at the South African Chefs Association Theatre, he’ll be showing just how a combination of local and international cooking experience and a passion for food, can dish up truly epic gastronomic delights.

Chef Warren began his culinary career as part of the Golden Tulip team in 1995, starting off at the Lord Charles before moving to the famous D' Vijff Vlieghen Restaurant in Amsterdam. He has also worked alongside Dutch Master Chef Rudolf Bos and Chef Marcus Koesler. In addition, he was part of the initial Five Flies team in Cape Town.

He then moved on to be the executive chef at the Astron, Plettenberg Bay, The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Resort as well as the Country Club Woodmead and Auckland Park.

At the Appetite Fest, he’ll be cooking alongside all three MasterChef Australia judges – George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston -  plus a host of top local and international celebrity chefs.

The Appetite Fest is a two-day feast of cooking workshops, tasting stalls, trend talks, masterclasses and more! There will be two food theatres as well as book signings, private cooking classes and an exclusive chef’s table. It is held at the Sun Arena, Time Square in  Pretoria on August 18 and 19.
