Sparkling for a good cause

COMEDY from John Vismas, Aaron McIlroy, Lisa Bobbert, and Ben Voss, razzle dazzle from the casts of the Durban productions Cabaret and Six of the Best, fiery flamenco from the Linda Vargas Spanish dance troupe, outpourings of rock and pop, appearances by television personalities, and lots of surprises.

All will be on the programme at the annual Night of 100 stars fundraiser for cancer research to be held at Durban’s Suncoast Casino at 6pm on Monday.

Directed by Mark Hawkins, this glittering gala dinner and show for the Durban branch of the Cancer Association of South Africa will showcase 40 talents.

Among those featured will be popular group Nne Vida, comprising the 2010 winners of television’s Popstars talent search, as well as SA’s Got Talent winner, Durban dancing sensation Darren Rajbal.

Show highlights will include former Idols finalist Bianca le Grange and radio and television personality Elana Afrika singing the powerful Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion duet Tell Him.

Egoli and Isidingo hunk Stephen van Niekerk is scheduled to sing the steamy Fever, accompanied by members of the Sharkettes, and cast members of the Barnyard Theatre show Six of the Best will perform a show-stopping medley of Meat Loaf’s Bat Outta Hell and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

Singers will include Krystle Temmerman (who has released a debut album), Marion Loudon, Lauren Laing, Melanie Roberts, Lyle Buxton, Christina Burge, Jarene Moses and Khaya Mthethwe.

The lineup will also include Durban jazz and R&B vocalist Natalie Rungan, the high-energy Solid Gold band, internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Andrew Young, singer Rob Warren and the ace Tim Wells Band.

Also lending their talents are young Blessing Xaba and Joshua Arnold, who will perform the poignant Alone in the Universe from the recent hit Durban musical Seussical!.

East Coast Radio personalities Terence Pillay and Damon Beard will also be at the event, along with rapper Ewok, the Bel Canto Choir, Sivani Chinappan and Naven Chetty.

The sexy cast of Cabaret, running at Durban’s Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre until August 28, will open Night of 100 Stars with Wilkommen and Don’t Tell Mama, both featured in the hit musical.

Tickets for the fundraising event are available from Computicket at R350 a head or R3 500 per table, which includes wine, a three-course meal and the entertainment.
