AFTER gaining much popularity as the main health expert for The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr Mehmet C Oz ventures to new television heights with his own multi-segment health and wellness talk show series, The Dr OZ Show, starting at 2.30pm on Monday on SABC3.

Scheduled to run for an hour at this time every weekday, the 174-episode series sets out to find answers to a wide range of health questions from Oz and other leading doctors, hospitals, associations and authors.

The Dr Oz Show offers topical, newsworthy information and inspiring stories in an upbeat and entertaining format, all from Dr Oz’s unique point of view,” says a spokesman for SABC3.

“Supported by leading experts in their fields, Dr Oz empowers viewers by providing cutting-edge information on important topics ranging from weight loss, nutrition and staying young to relationships, sex and handling conflict and stress.”

Oz is a Daytime Emmy Award-winning TV host who is also the vice chairman and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University in the US.

He directs the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Programme at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and his research interests include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complementary medicine and health care policy.

He has written more than 400 original publications, book chapters and medical books, has received several patents and performs more than 100 heart surgeries annually.

Oz was born in Cleveland, Ohio, raised in Delaware and received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1982. He obtained a joint MD and MBA in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Wharton Business School.

He lives in Northern New Jersey with his wife, Lisa, and their four children, Daphne, Arabella, Zoe and Oliver.

Oz was a featured health expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show for more than five seasons, spanning 55 episodes.

In addition to numerous appearances on television shows such as Good Morning America, he has also appeared on The Today S how, Larry King Live, The View, guest-hosted the Charlie Rose Show and appeared on news broadcasts. He also served as medical director of the Denzel Washington fim John Q and was involved with several other feature films.

Oz has authored six New York Times bestsellers including Y ou: The Owner’s Manual, You: The Smart Patient, You: On a Diet, You: Staying Young, “You Being Beautiful and the award-winning Healing From the Heart.

In addition to belonging to every major professional society for heart surgeons, Oz was placed at number three on Forbes magazine’s most influential celebrity and has been honoured as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and one of Esquire magazine’s 75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century.
