DURBAN - Clad in a satin wraparound dress that swirled in the wind at Greyville Racecourse on Thursday, well-known and controversial celebrity Zodwa Wabantu shot videos of herself for social media as we walked through the marquees for the Vodacom Durban July.

“I’m here, where we all are going to be having a good time. I’m here at your marquees- Durban July It’s going to be lit,” said Zodwa Wabantu, whose real name is Zodwa Libram, into her phone while shooting.

With the racecourse abuzz with activity and service vehicles already causing traffic jams at the racecourse, Zodwa Wabantu caught the attention of many while she stopped to take selfies with fans.

The Independent on Saturday met up with Zodwa Wabantu this week to find out what she would be wearing at this year’s much-anticipated July.

While she set social media alight at last year’s premier horse race with her “sans panties” outfit and her bold riposte to online critics about her womanly cellulite, Zodwa Wabantu is set on outdoing the outfit she wore last year, saying she would be sporting three dresses at this year’s event.

“This is a big deal, this event is big, so I also had to do things big,” she said, adding that her three dresses were complete and were delivered to her this week. “The one is to show off when I arrive and the other two are for the two marquees where I’ve been booked.”

She said while her dresses for the big day had been delivered, she would have designer Ngcebo Mnyandu with Non- kosi Collection at the race to assist.

“One of the dresses extends with a train and needs to be held up, but I love all my dresses. I’ll be looking drop-dead gorgeous, believe me.”

Zodwa Wabantu said all her outfits were black because this was her favourite colour.

“My dresses are sexy - like me. The material will make sure that people can see what I’m not wearing.”

Zodwa Wabantu is booked to be at two marquees, the Soweto VIP marquee as well as the Mementos Lifestyle Marquee.

“I’m going to bring what Zodwa always brings to the table - fun. People will let their hair down and relax, I’ll be myself as usual and make them feel comfortable. People are uptight and afraid to be themselves, but when they are around me they let go and (are) comfortable. Expect to have a good time,” she said.

The 2018 Vodacom Durban July, which takes place at Greyville Racecourse next Saturday, has become one of the country’s top social events of the year with the rich and famous, including top celebs, fashionistas and influencers, jetting into the city from around the country.
