Durban - Racing was much more informal at Greyville early in the century, according to the Durban Turf Club’s centenary book, Riding the Wind.
This picture was taken of the section of track just to the north of the finishing line in the early 1900s.
This week’s photograph, taken by Leon Lestrade at the Vodacom Durban July Gallops, shows the changes over the last century with buildings beside the track, which today block some of the view across Mitchell Crescent, except for the tower feature of a house called Trifecta, which now accommodates students.
