I was thrilled to be discover that the first floatation lab has opened in Cape Town at 15 on Orange Hotel.

Having floated a few times before I knew the benefits and was looking forward to the experience. Personally, for me the experience of floating is the ultimate in relaxation.

Floatation therapy is a simple way to achieve profound relaxation, mindfulness, healing, and revival.

Centrally located in 15 On Orange in Victoria Street Cape Town, FloatZero is perfect for people working in the CBD who need to escape for an hour to relax and revitalise before returning to work. The best way of relaxing in lunch time is a quick float.

There is an upstairs relax lounge where clients can relax after their float and enjoy a cup or two of freshly brewed herbal and floral teas.

FloatZero has 3 pods, each in their own private room. The rooms are fitted with a shower, toilet, hairdryer and toiletries - making it easy for clients to return to the office looking and feeling refreshed after their float session.

As I entered my pod I immediately began to experience a feeling of relaxation. The water is heated to skin temperate so the body is completely comfortable.

The Pod:

The pods at FloatZero are larger than the normal pods - allowing couples to float together. The pod is gently lit by 7 coloured filters which correspond to the 7 chakras of our body.

The binaural beats in the piped music send a marginally different sound frequency to each ear, allowing the brain to synchronise and relax. (There is a button in the pod to switch off the music if you prefer silence).

Binaural beats have been used by Tibetan monks, Native American shamans, Hindu healers and master Yogis to induce specific brainwave states for transcending consciousness, healing, concentration and spiritual growth.

As I floated effortlessly in a sea of distilled water and epsom salts my body found balance and I experienced a deep state of relaxation.

Why float?

The elimination of gravity reduces pressure on our musculoskeletal and nervous systems and gives our brains the opportunity to rest.  It is said that 1 hour of floating is equivalent to 3 hours of deep sleep.

Imagine a space where you don’t feel, see or hear anything. The Pod's unique environment is designed to allow for a minimal amount of sensory input to enter our nervous system.

Benefits for your mind & body:

Whether you're using floatation therapy as a tool for stress-relief, aching muscles, meditation,or rest & recovery, there are a wide-range of almost instant benefits that are difficult to achieve from other therapies.

In the floatation pod we shut out all environmental stimuli including tactile sensations, movement and gravity. We become aware of the relaxation of our muscles, allowing our mind to slow down and thoughts, emotions and mental images resulting in calming of the mind.

The benefits of floatation therapy include:

- Reduction of the stress hormone cortisol

- Muscle recovery

- Increased magnesium absorption

- Lowered blood pressure

- Diminished anxiety

- Reduced swelling

- Improved sleep

- Increased bodily healing

- Brain Synchronization

- Heightened senses

- Pain Management

- Increased immune function

- Enhanced healing & recovery

- Musculoskeletal Awareness

- Magnesium Absorption

We use an estimated 85% of our body’s resources toward working with gravity, and another 5% goes toward our sight/sound/temperature control - meaning that on an average day, we are using about 90% of our energy to simply be.

When we remove the gravity/sight/sound/temperature configuration, we have access to 90% of our natural energy.

For those who are concerned about the water being used in the tanks - the water used to run the float lab is sourced outside of Cape Town

FloatZero offer- 30 mins, 45 mins, 60 and 90 mins float sessions with packages available.
