Durban - EThekwini Municipality is the host city of the annual Council of the Southern African Football Associations tournament, Cosafa cup.
On Sunday the city will welcome defending champions Bafana Bafana at King Shaka International Airport. Bafana Bafana are set to start their title defence in a quarter-final match against Mozambique on Wednesday.
The Cosafa cup kicked off on July 5 with eight countries and is expected to conclude on July 17, with the final taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The majority are from Southern Africa had have already starting the group stages
EThekwini Municipality said that the city will roll out the red carpet for Bafana Bafana when they arrive in Durban, ahead of their Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup quarter-final encounter with Mozambique. “The game will take place on 13 July at the King Zwelithini Stadium in uMlazi. Kickoff is at 5pm.”
Also arriving in Durban on Sunday is the Zambian national team, Chipolopolo, who will start their quarter-final campaign against Group A winners at the same venue on July 12. “The tournament, with daily thrilling action, kicked off on July 5,” the municipality said.
The tournament will also feature the 2021, African Cup of Nations 2021 winners from Senegal, known as the Lions of Teranga. The west African country is expected to start their campaign off in a quarter-final match against the winners of Group B on Wednesday.
The municipality said tickets for all the games are free. “The tickets can be collected at the following venues: Zinto Cele Park in uMlazi, Kings Park Swimming Pool car parking and at the China Mall at the Wheel.”
